About

One person, for the love of it, in the open.

Kosmotheka isn’t a company. It’s an app made at an unhurried pace by someone whose home was also full of stuff.

It started with the usual questions: did we already have this book? Who took Catan? Which season were we on? Spreadsheets lasted two weeks, and the apps out there wanted an account, sent everything to a server, or forgot that more than one person lives in a home.

So Kosmotheka does it the other way round: your home first, the cloud later, and the cloud only if you want it. Everything works without an account or internet, and it’s shared with your people over the home Wi-Fi.

Who makes it

A single person, in their spare time, because they enjoy it. There are no investors to please and no data to sell, which is why there are no ads and no tracking. No rush either: each thing ships when it’s done properly.

In the open

Kosmotheka is free software under the AGPL licence. The code is open for anyone to see and improve on GitHub, and anyone who wants to can run their own server to sync from afar without relying on the official one.

The name

It joins kosmos, the universe, with -theka, as in bibliotheca: a universe of things kept safe. The symbol is a star dissolving into pixels, like everything at home once it’s finally catalogued.
